Saving Mr. Banks. SUCH, a fantastic movie!!!!
It makes me unbelievably happy when I see such an amazingly awesome movie. If you haven’t seen it, run out right this very moment even though the Super Bowl is on (and for the record, don’t know/don’t care who’s playing). I finally saw it last night, and am obviously happy about that.
I have this fascination with visionaries. Walt Disney would most definitely be one of them. One of the most incredible minds in my opinion. When he isn’t necessarily known for dreams like MLK is, he had beautiful dreams, and he brought them to life.
Back when amusement parks didn’t exactly exist, he created an entire kingdom that literally made you believe you were in another world. He made people smile through his cartoons, his movies, his songs and his park. He had teams of people around him that saw his vision, and worked wonders to make them a reality.
If you aren’t familiar with the premise of this movie, it tells the story of how Walt Disney convinced the author of Mary Poppins, to sign over her rights to make a movie of  this childhood favorite. At the end of the movie, Walt Disney (played by Tom Hanks), gives the most eloquent speech to PL Travers (author of Mary Poppins, played by Emma Thompson, who is lovely in this film).
He tells her how they’re storytellers. And their job is to give people hope. To bring visions to life. To help people create memories of moments. What an awesome job. To bring visions to life, to help people remember moments. I couldn’t help but feel beyond inspired as he said these words.Â
Isn’t this what I’m trying to do at the end of the day? Bring my visions of your beautiful families to life? Help you remember these small moments, these happy moments, these touching moments. I am totally a storyteller. Am I a visionary? Not yet. I certainly aspire. And because of that, I’m grateful for people like Walt Disney, who paved a path for visions outside of a box, that touched unspeakable numbers of people. I aspire.
