Michael J. Fox and Robin Williams are individuals who made Parkinson’s Disease widely recognizable. But it was my Dad who made Parkinson’s a reality in my life. For years prior to his diagnosis, he’d do things that didn’t make sense and we found ourselves increasingly frustrated with him. Looking back, the behavior was undoubtedly the illness. As time passed, his symptoms became more severe and my heart broke a little each day watching my Father fight this battle. This sweet woman has the same disease that my Dad did. As I spent time with this family creating photos, I saw many nuances that you’d only recognize had you seen such an intimate look at Parkinson’s. This session left me with bittersweet emotions because she reminded me of my Dad, and it was somehow comforting. I don’t know what this family’s future holds. What I do know is that it’s genuinely special to be able to freeze moments like this. Photos of my Dad are some of the things I cherish the most. Perhaps that’s what being a photographer is all about. I’d love to hear your story and create beautiful photos for your family too, so contact me!
